The American historian Bryce Lyon (1920-2007), professor emeritus at Brown University (USA), published, in collaboration with his wife, two books in the collections and several articles in the Bulletin of the Royal Historical Commission. Over the years, he developed exceptional relations with the Commission, and even linked numerous friendships with some of its members. It is in that capacity that he decided to entrust the Commission with a capital, by proposing the attribution of a yearly award.
In its session of 26 June 2004, the Commission accepted this proposal with gratitude. Consequently, the commission decided to name the award Bryce & Mary Lyon, after its founders.

Rule

  1. The Bryce & Mary Lyon Award will be attributed every two years. It will be awarded for the first time in December 2005.
  2. The award must be considered as a kind of encouragement to pursue the scientific texts publication tradition. It will hence be awarded to the youngest author, aged thirty at most, whose works were published in the two previous years in either the Bulletin or another of the Commission's collections.
  3. The prize money amounts to 500€.
  4. Award-winners are not allowed to participate more than once for this particular prize.
  5. The Commission reserves the right of interpretation of the present regulations.
